No one could ever take your place, Warren Harding!
Unless there's a big population spurt in IOWA, Warren Harding is going to hold the record for biggest victory margin here (406,753 votes, back in 1920) for a long time. Harding's 71% is also a record unlikely to be broken soon in what is now a quintessential swing state. The combined victory margin in 2000 and 2004 (first 4,144 for Democrat Gore, then 10,059 for Republican Bush) was lower than in any state outside of New Mexico. Obama won by 146,651 in 2008 — a healthy margin, but one which no incumbent should take for granted in one of the few staes where Reagan's margin shrunk from 1980 to 1984.
