Still feeling buyer's remorse over Nixon?
MINNESOTA currently has the longest streak of Democratic wins, last voting for the GOP in 1972. (Yes, that's a 3,761-vote margin for Mondale in 1984.) The Democratic Party's dominance peaked in 1964, when Minnesota's Hubert Humphrey was on the bottom half of the ticket with Lyndon Johnson; the winning margin of 431,493 is still a state record. Afte big wins for Clinton, the state seemed to get more competitive in 2000 and 2004, when Democrats only won by 2 and 3 points, respectively. But Obama won by just over 10 points in 2008, with a margin of 297,945.
